Zambia Secures $100M IMF Investment for 300 Telecommunications Towers with IHS Towers Collaboration
Zambia's ICT sector is now the fastest-growing contributor to GDP, reaching 17.4% last year. The government, led by Minister Felix C. Mutati, launched the Kitwe KVTC Tower on February 15, 2025, and plans to construct 300 new towers nationwide, funded by $100 million from the IMF. IHS Towers, which operates over 2,000 towers in Zambia, is a key partner, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing digital connectivity and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The Zambian government, under Minister Felix C. Mutati, has announced a $100 million investment from the IMF for constructing 300 telecommunications towers nationwide. The Kitwe KVTC Tower was launched on February 15, 2025, marking a significant step in improving digital connectivity.
IHS Towers, operating over 2,000 towers in Zambia, is partnering with the government and Airtel Zambia to build additional infrastructure, including 225 towers completed last year and 75 more planned by March 31, 2025. The new towers will enhance network quality, support digital inclusion, and benefit various sectors including agriculture. The Kapiri Mposhi Tower, inaugurated on February 13, 2026, serves over 7,000 residents and operates independently of the national grid, utilizing generators, lithium batteries, and solar energy for uninterrupted service.
