Zenobē's Gremista Battery Storage System to Support Shetland's Energy Transition by Year-End
Zenobē reports significant progress on its 68MW battery energy storage system in Gremista, expected to be operational by year-end. The project is critical for transitioning Shetland from Lerwick Power Station to the National Grid, with further construction and electrical works planned. The battery system aims to prevent blackouts by supporting Shetland's energy supply during faults on the interconnector. Environmental protection measures are being implemented during construction.

Zenobē is advancing its 68MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gremista, expected to be operational by the end of the year. Completion of structural foundations and installation of cable troughs are currently underway.
The BESS is crucial for transitioning from diesel-fueled Lerwick Power Station to the National Grid and aims to prevent blackouts during faults on the 600MW interconnector. Electrical works and commissioning are to follow in the coming weeks, with commercial operation projected for late 2026. Environmental protection measures are in place during construction.
