Zimbabwe Advocates for African Involvement in Renewable Energy Value Chain
African nations, led by Zimbabwe, emphasize the need to participate in the renewable energy technology value chain. This shift aims to enhance local economies and reduce dependency on imports despite abundant mineral resources in the region.

Zimbabwe's Energy Ministry Secretary Gloria Magombo called for African nations to engage in the renewable energy technology value chain, aiming to bolster local economies. She highlighted that Africa possesses essential minerals for renewable technologies, such as lithium, yet remains a mere consumer of these products.
To address this, Zimbabwe has banned the export of raw lithium to promote local value addition. The International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC) is emphasizing these issues as the country seeks to enhance its energy security amid global disparities in technology adoption. The ongoing conference, attended by energy experts and investors, underscores the urgency of integrating renewable energy discussions into mainstream media and public policy.
