The St. Lucie County Erosion District is collaborating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a beach nourishment project in Fort Pierce, set to begin in early March.
The project addresses erosion south of the Fort Pierce Inlet, with nearly 400,000 cubic yards of sand to be placed on approximately 1 mile of shoreline. This is part of a two-year nourishment schedule due to the impact of the federal inlet navigation channel.
The $15.1 million contract was awarded to Manson Construction Co., with completion expected by mid-May. Temporary closures of the South Jetty at Jetty Park and restrictions on the beach will occur during construction.
