22-Year-Old Dies in Coimbatore Car Crash Involving Gas Pipeline
A 22-year-old car showroom worker, Vimal Raj, died in a car crash in Coimbatore after the vehicle he was in collided with steel pipes for a natural gas project. The incident occurred when the car, driven by 23-year-old Akash, lost control after hitting a bike; the trio, who had been drinking, attempted to flee but crashed into the pipes, leading to a fire that trapped Vimal. Police have registered a case as Akash and another co-worker escaped with minor injuries.

A 22-year-old car showroom worker, Vimal Raj, died after a car he was in collided with steel pipes for a natural gas project in Coimbatore. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 7:30 PM when the car, driven by Akash (23), lost control after hitting a bike at Ettimadai junction.
The trio, who had been drinking, attempted to flee but crashed into the pipes, which were placed on the roadside by GAIL. The pipes penetrated the driver's cabin and ignited a fire. Akash and co-worker Karthi (24) escaped with minor injuries, but Vimal was trapped and suffered fatal burns.
Fire and rescue personnel extinguished the flames and recovered Vimal's body. The police have registered a case.
