€2.6M Allocated for Flood Defense Initiatives in Wexford
The Irish government has allocated €2.6 million for interim flood defense measures in County Wexford in response to recent flooding events. This funding aims to implement protective works in affected areas while comprehensive flood schemes are still under planning.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has allocated €2,613,504 for interim flood defense works in County Wexford, prompted by recent flooding in Bridgetown. Immediate measures include the installation of aqua dams and construction of earth banks around key areas such as The Waterfront Pool & Leisure Centre and the Promenade.
Additionally, pump sumps will be established on Abbey Quay and Shannon Quay, with temporary earth bunds planned for Bunclody and Bridgetown. These works are intended to provide short-term protection while a larger flood defense scheme for Enniscorthy is in development. Local officials emphasize the importance of these measures to mitigate future flooding risks, particularly ahead of the upcoming winter season.
