The 25th Attack Wing reactivated the 42nd Attack Squadron at Creech Air Force Base on March 6, 2026, to strengthen the MQ-9 Reaper community. This marks a renewed focus on enhancing capacity for combat operations.
The 42nd ATKS, established in 1917, had previously generated 180,000 combat hours and was dormant since January 2020. Its reactivation is part of a strategy to improve combat readiness and facilitate high-end training within a two-phase Air Force Force Generation cycle.
The additional squadron enhances battlespace awareness and response times, while also supporting joint force capabilities. This move alleviates pressure on legacy squadrons and ensures sustainable deployment rotations for the MQ-9 platform.
