€75 Million Contract for New Organic Waste Processing Plant in Malta
A €75 million contract has been signed for a new organic waste processing plant in Malta, set to be operational in two years. This facility will nearly double WasteServ's organic waste processing capacity and significantly boost renewable energy generation, achieving environmental sustainability goals.

The Maltese government and WasteServ have signed a €75 million contract to establish a new organic waste processing facility, scheduled for completion within two years. This plant will increase organic waste processing capacity from approximately 36,000 tonnes to over 74,000 tonnes annually and is expected to generate up to 20 GWh of renewable electricity, enough to power 2,500 households.
The project will be co-funded by the European Union, contributing €45 million to the total investment. The facility aims to enhance Malta's waste management infrastructure, reduce landfill dependency, and support a circular economy by converting organic waste into renewable energy and compost.
The operational model includes sealed processing to prevent contamination, ensuring efficient waste treatment and packaging. The initiative underscores a commitment to sustainability and aligns with Malta's environmental targets.
