ABB Robotics is launching a research and development project to measure and reduce the carbon footprint associated with industrial robot electricity usage. The project aims to establish a global standard for energy consumption measurement, addressing challenges customers face in comparing the efficiency of different robots.

In collaboration with the Swedish Institute for Standardization and various experts, ABB is developing a technical specification set for completion by August 2026. Current findings indicate that over 70% of customers' carbon footprints arise from electricity usage during robot operations.
