Abia and Akwa Ibom States Collaborate to Ensure Peace for Link Road Construction
Deputy governors of Abia and Akwa Ibom states held a peace meeting to resolve tensions between communities in Akirika Obu, Abia State, and Ikot Udo, Akwa Ibom State, to prevent disruptions to the construction of the Abia-Akwa Ibom link road. Abia Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu emphasized the meeting's focus on ensuring the road project progresses smoothly, rather than addressing land ownership or boundary disputes, which are under the National Boundary Commission's jurisdiction.
Both states approved the road construction from their ends, with plans for the sections to meet at the disputed area. Emetu urged the communities to maintain peaceful coexistence, while Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor Akon Etim Eyakenyi encouraged stakeholders to support the road project.
Brigadier General Hassan M. Bello of the Nigerian Army confirmed the military's role in ensuring security during the discussions.
