ABx Group Begins Construction of Hydrogen Fluoride Pilot Plant in Tasmania
ABx Group's subsidiary ALCORE has submitted an Environmental Effects Report to start construction on a hydrogen fluoride pilot plant in Tasmania. Hydrogen fluoride is essential for various industrial applications, including aluminium production. The plant aims to address Australia's reliance on imports for hydrogen fluoride and fluorochemicals. The first equipment delivery is scheduled for April 2026, with commissioning expected in late Q3 2026. ALCORE is also engaging with the global fluorine industry for further commercial opportunities.

ABx Group's 83%-owned subsidiary ALCORE has submitted an Environmental Effects Report (EER) for a hydrogen fluoride pilot plant in Tasmania, marking a significant step in local production efforts for rare earth metals. The plant, designed to address Australia's import reliance for hydrogen fluoride, will support aluminium smelting and semiconductor manufacturing.
Minor civil works are underway, with equipment delivery set for April 2026 and commissioning expected by late Q3 2026. ALCORE is also exploring commercial opportunities in the fluorine industry, emphasizing the critical nature of hydrogen fluoride as a mineral recognized by multiple global economies.
