Adani Ports to Invest ₹16,000 Crore for Vizhinjam Port Expansion to 5.7 Million TEUs by 2029
Adani Ports will invest ₹16,000 crore to expand Vizhinjam port's capacity from 1 million TEUs to 5.7 million TEUs by 2029, positioning it as India's largest transshipment port. The second phase will include 21 automated ship-to-shore cranes, 45 automated gantry cranes, a rail handling yard, and advanced automation systems.
Key infrastructure improvements include berth expansion, dredging, and the construction of a 920-meter deep breakwater. The project will also implement green technologies like electric vehicle charging stations and develop essential facilities such as an electrical substation and sewage treatment plant. Additionally, an MoU has been signed with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to initiate India's first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations at the port.
