ADB Allocates Rs.325m for Bridge Reconstruction in Jaffna
The Asian Development Bank has committed Rs.325 million for the reconstruction of the Ponnaalai and Vallai bridges in Jaffna. This funding is crucial for restoring essential infrastructure in a region recovering from conflict.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated Rs.325 million for the reconstruction of the Ponnaalai Bridge, connecting Kaarainakar and the Jaffna peninsula, with initial work currently underway. ADB will also fund the Vallai Bridge reconstruction, which was damaged during Sri Lanka Army offensives.
In Kaarainakar region, 9,329 residents from 3,083 families have returned, although many others continue to visit to maintain properties. The Ponnaalai Bridge, neglected for 30 years, has caused hardships during rainy seasons and has been the site of accidents. Concerns remain regarding the impact of the current security situation on the progress of these development projects.
