ADX Energy to Restart Flow Testing at Welchau-1 and Drill Three Shallow Gas Wells in Austria in 2026
ADX Energy is set to restart flow testing at its Welchau-1 discovery in Austria in February 2026, following the completion of planning and permitting for operations. The company aims to drill up to three shallow gas wells next year, targeting high-purity methane reservoirs, while also planning to enhance flow from the Reifling formation through acid stimulation. The initiative is part of a broader strategy for cost-efficient hub-style development, utilizing advanced seismic interpretation and AI analysis.

ADX Energy plans to restart flow testing at its Welchau-1 discovery in Austria in February 2026, as it prepares for drilling up to three shallow gas wells next year. The company has completed planning and permitting for operations in Upper Austria, following the discovery of a significant hydrocarbon column at Welchau-1 in early 2024, with potential estimates of 12 to 217 million barrels of oil equivalent.
ADX has contracted a workover rig to resume flow testing on the Reifling formation, with plans for acid stimulation to improve flow. The company also has seven shallow gas prospects in its ADX-AT-I and ADX-AT-II licenses, targeting high-purity methane reservoirs.
The HOCH-1 well is expected to be fully permitted by mid-January, followed by GOLD-1 and SCHOEN-1. This program aims for cost-efficient hub-style development, leveraging advanced seismic interpretation and AI analysis.
