Aero Vodochody Secures Jet Trainer Contract with Vietnam
Czech firm Aero Vodochody has signed a contract to deliver 12 L-39NG jet trainers to Vietnam, scheduled for 2023-2024. This deal enhances Aero Vodochody's presence in Asia and follows Vietnam's recent acquisition of Yak-130 trainers from Russia.

Aero Vodochody will deliver 12 L-39NG jet trainers to Vietnam's Ministry of National Defence, with deliveries set for 2023-2024. The contract includes training, spare parts, and logistics support, while the deal's financial details remain undisclosed.
The Czech Ministry of Defence approved the L-39NG for export after extensive testing, including 300 test flights. Vietnam's People's Air Force currently operates older L-39 versions, and the new trainers are expected to function as basic trainers alongside the Yak-130s, enhancing the VPAF’s capabilities. The U.S. lifted an arms embargo on Vietnam in 2016, opening avenues for defense cooperation.
