African Leaders Urged to Harness Solar Potential Amidst Energy Investment Gaps
Africa, possessing 60% of global solar resources, receives less than 3% of energy investments. The Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation highlights the need for leadership in clean energy and regional unity.

The Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) has emphasized the urgent need for African leaders to invest in clean energy solutions, particularly solar power, to unlock the continent's vast potential. Despite holding 60% of the world's best solar resources and significant untapped hydroelectric and geothermal energy, Africa currently attracts less than 3% of global energy investments.
Dr. Michael David, Executive Director of GIFSEP, noted that a comprehensive approach to clean energy could facilitate a continent-wide grid, enabling solar power from the Sahara to illuminate homes in West Africa. The African Development Bank has cited a need for over $50 billion annually in adaptation finance, which remains unmet, highlighting a critical gap in funding and investment.
