AFRICOM Completes Second Field Test of CURTAIN CALL Drone Defense System
AFRICOM's CURTAIN CALL defense system underwent a successful field test from April 27 to May 1, 2026, focusing on UAS threats. This development is crucial as it aims to enhance troop safety against aerial attacks through low-cost drone swarm technology.

U.S. Africa Command conducted its second field test of the CURTAIN CALL drone-swarm defense system at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, California, from April 27 to May 1, 2026. The test evaluated the system's effectiveness against single and coordinated drone attacks, demonstrating improved tracking and response times.
Key operational objectives included validating direct communication with the drone swarm and launching defensive actions upon human operator approval. The integration of the Tactical Awareness Kit (TAK) was also assessed for real-time situational awareness. Data from this event will inform enhancements to CURTAIN CALL, aiming for a deployable, low-cost defense solution to protect military forces against aerial threats.
