AFRL Restructures to Enhance Military Technology Deployment
The Air Force Research Laboratory restructured to align its research with mission priorities, aiming for faster delivery of military technologies. The redesign incorporates seven entities, including five new directorates focused on specific warfare domains.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has been restructured into seven major entities, including five new mission-oriented directorates aimed at enhancing collaboration and efficiency in technology deployment. These directorates include Air Warfare, Space Warfare, Information and Spectrum Warfare, and the Foundational Technology Directorate, which will oversee basic research.
The Technology Transition Office will facilitate connections between the lab, industry, and mission partners to expedite capabilities delivery. This restructuring aligns with the Air Force's broader shift to the Warfighting Acquisition System, intended to improve decision-making and accountability. Potential risks include the challenge of integrating these changes efficiently within existing frameworks.
