AIM Intelligent Machines, a Seattle-area startup, has secured a $4.9 million contract with the U.S. Air Force to develop autonomous construction technology for military bases and airfields. Established in 2021, AIM's software enables bulldozers and excavators to operate independently, enhancing operations in hazardous or hard-to-reach areas.
The technology includes 3D mapping capabilities for assessing damage and allows remote operation of machinery for airfield repairs. This approach is expected to expedite construction processes and mitigate risks to personnel.
AIM raised $50 million in funding last year, with notable investors including Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. CEO Adam Sadilek emphasized the potential of automation to increase construction capacity without displacing workers.
