Air Force Academy Reports $4.2 Billion in Deferred Projects and Chapel Water Test Success
DEFENSE
The Air Force Academy reports $4.2 billion in deferred projects, highlighting urgent facility needs presented by Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind.
Most buildings date from 1955 to 1966 and are underfunded, leading to frequent failures, such as 50 emergency repairs at Sijan Hall last year. A $350 million plan is proposed for remodeling and new construction.
The chapel renovation, facing delays due to asbestos and structural issues, is now estimated at $335 million, with completion expected in fall 2028 following positive water test results. Cadet tours of the chapel are being encouraged.
