Air Force Allocates $213 Million for CV-22 Osprey Enhancements in 2027 Budget

In fiscal 2027, the Air Force will invest $213 million in its CV-22 Osprey fleet, focusing on new proprotor gearboxes utilizing X-53 Triple-Melt Steel to improve reliability after previous failures. The budget allocates $105 million for reliability modifications and includes 166 'Group A' kits for installation support.
The Air Force's procurement of reliability kits exceeds its fleet size of 56 CV-22s, indicating a collaborative funding approach with the Navy, Marine Corps, and SOCOM. Additionally, $45.7 million is designated for V-22 research and development, including enhancements to range and response times. The introduction of new systems such as Silent Knight radar aims to improve operational capabilities in contested environments.
