Air Force Enhances Response to PFAS Contamination Near Fairchild AFB
The Air Force is expanding its response to PFAS contamination around Fairchild AFB by increasing water testing and installing filtration systems. Community involvement is emphasized as a key element in the ongoing remediation efforts.

The Air Force will enhance its PFAS contamination response by expanding drinking water testing and installing additional in-home water filters starting this fall. As of late 2025, 420 private wells were tested, and 92 whole-house treatment systems were installed.
A contract to provide smaller filters for 62 homes is also in development. Beginning in 2026, further testing and treatment system installations will occur to prevent PFAS migration in groundwater. This cleanup follows the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) protocols to ensure a data-driven approach, emphasizing community engagement through the Fairchild Restoration Advisory Board for transparency and input.
