Air Force Seeks 21% Budget Increase for 2027 Operations and Maintenance
The Air Force has proposed a 21% increase in its Active-Duty operations and maintenance budget for fiscal 2027, raising it to $79.8 billion. This increase aims to enhance flying hours and related training, indicating a strategic shift towards operational readiness and modernization.

For fiscal 2027, the Air Force requests a $79.8 billion Active-Duty operations and maintenance (O&M) budget, up from $65.8 billion in 2026. The flying hour program budget is projected to increase by 22% to over $7.4 billion.
Training and recruiting budgets are proposed to rise by 10%, totaling over $3.6 billion, which includes a significant boost in recruit training spending from $29 million to over $70 million. Additionally, funding for air operations training is set to increase by 55% to nearly $2.8 billion.
Combatant commands' funding is expected to rise 52%, with U.S. Northern Command and NORAD's budget nearly tripling. Other increases include a 56% boost for U.S.
Space Command and a 46% rise for U.S. Special Operations Command. These budget adjustments reflect a broader commitment to enhance capabilities and operational effectiveness within the Air Force.
