Airbus Launches Spain's Integrated Combat Training System to Replace F-5 Fleet
Airbus, in partnership with Turkish Aerospace, has initiated the Integrated Combat Training System (ITS-C) for the Spanish Air and Space Force, set to replace the F-5 fleet. The program, awarded a contract in December 2025, prioritizes 60% participation from Spanish industry, enhancing national technological sovereignty and reducing reliance on foreign systems.

The Integrated Combat Training System (ITS-C) program, led by Airbus and Turkish Aerospace, aims to replace Spain's F-5 aircraft with 30 HÜRJET-based SAETA II trainers. The first phase commences in 2028 with an initial delivery of 21 aircraft, including a prototype for avionics integration, while a ground-based training system will be operational by the 2029-2030 academic year.
The program emphasizes a 60% involvement of Spanish industry, integrating key technologies from various national companies. The second phase will finalize the conversion of all aircraft by 2035, reinforcing Spain's strategic autonomy and enhancing operational capabilities. This initiative is expected to create jobs and promote knowledge transfer within the defense sector.
