Airbus Leads Consortium for Sovereign Space Intelligence Solution in Germany
Airbus Defence and Space has established a Memorandum of Understanding with four German companies to develop satellite-based Earth observation and ISR capabilities. This initiative addresses the increasing demand for independent European space surveillance capabilities in response to strategic autonomy needs.

Airbus Defence and Space has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rohde & Schwarz, constellr, Orbint, and High Performance Space Structure Systems (HPS) to enhance satellite-based Earth observation and ISR capabilities. The consortium, led by Airbus, aims to fulfill the growing governmental demand for sovereign space surveillance capabilities, reducing reliance on non-European technologies.
The collaboration reflects a recognition of the need for strategic autonomy in space intelligence within Europe. The partners have begun their non-exclusive cooperation, targeting the integration of thermal ISR capabilities as a critical component to bridge existing gaps. This initiative may strengthen the European space ecosystem and enhance national defense capabilities in response to evolving operational challenges.
