Akron City Council Considers Defense Training Facility in Goodyear Heights
Akron City Council is reviewing a petition to rezone a former swim park into a defense training facility. The proposal faces significant opposition from local residents concerned about noise, traffic, and property values.

Akron City Council is evaluating a request for conditional-use zoning to convert a 12-acre property in Goodyear Heights into a defense education training facility. The facility, proposed by David Walker and partnered with Achilles Heel Tactical, aims to provide training for local emergency services, using non-lethal ammunition in a controlled indoor environment.
However, residents express concerns regarding potential noise, increased traffic, and adverse effects on property values, with estimates suggesting decreases between 3.7% to 30%. The council is considering community feedback and relevant zoning codes before making a decision on the proposal, which is currently tabled for further public hearings.
