Alamosa to Begin Hunt Avenue Cultural Trail Amid Construction Cost Challenges
Alamosa will commence construction on the Hunt Avenue Cultural Trail this summer, although the project has been scaled back due to rising costs linked to Colorado Department of Transportation requirements. Public Works Director Harry Reynolds highlighted that the use of CDOT-approved contractors could potentially double the construction budget. Additionally, other regional developments include a proposed natural gas rate increase by Xcel Energy and efforts to enhance data center investment in Colorado.

Alamosa will start construction on the Hunt Avenue Cultural Trail this summer, although the project has been scaled back due to Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) requirements. Public Works Director Harry Reynolds noted that using CDOT-approved contractors leads to inflated costs, potentially doubling the construction budget.
Additionally, the Bureau of Land Management is working under a new order from U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to open more public lands to hunting and fishing, with current reviews on closures at Blanca Wetlands.
Colorado is also planning to reintroduce wolverines, aiming to release 15 annually over three years. Xcel Energy proposed a natural gas rate increase of 11.4% starting in October and a 9% electricity rate hike for 2026.
Meanwhile, a new bill, Colorado HB26-1030, aims to enhance data center investment in the state, with a media briefing scheduled for January 20. The investigation into the death of Bill McClure remains ongoing without new developments.
