Alaska Railroad Corporation Presents LNG Readiness and Northern Continental Corridor Resolution to House Committee
The Alaska House Transportation Committee received a briefing from the Alaska Railroad Corporation on its operational performance and capital projects, including preparations for the Alaska LNG project. The session introduced House Joint Resolution 42, supporting the Northern Continental Corridor rail link, which aims to enhance supply-chain logistics and defense readiness. Key projects include the $137 million Seward Passenger Dock and various infrastructure upgrades. The ARRC is positioned to issue tax-exempt debt to facilitate LNG transport, pending legislative authorization.

The Alaska House Transportation Committee was briefed by the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) on its self-sustaining model, operational performance, and readiness for the Alaska LNG project. The committee discussed House Joint Resolution 42, supporting the Northern Continental Corridor (NCC) rail link, which aims to improve supply-chain resilience and national defense logistics.
Major projects include the $137 million Seward Passenger Dock, set for completion in May 2026, and various infrastructure enhancements. The ARRC is prepared for LNG transport and plans to invest $10 million in upgrades pending a Final Investment Decision.
The railroad can issue tax-exempt debt under the Alaska Railroad Transfer Act, potentially saving hundreds of millions. The committee will further discuss HJR 42 in the next meeting.
