Albania and Croatia Discuss Stalled Azerbaijani Gas Pipeline Project
Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha discussed the nearly defunct gas pipeline project with Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlić-Radman. The pipeline, proposed to extend through Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia, aimed to enhance natural gas supply from Azerbaijan but lacks concrete progress. The European Commission has not responded regarding the 531 km project, which would connect several countries' gas transmission systems to the EU's TAP pipeline. Croatia is currently developing an LNG interconnector with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ferit Hoxha, spoke with Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlić-Radman regarding a proposed extension of a gas pipeline from Albania through Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to Croatia, which aims to increase natural gas supply from Azerbaijan. However, the project is considered nearly dead, with no concrete steps taken thus far.
The European Commission has not replied to inquiries about the 531 km pipeline, which would connect existing gas transmission systems in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania to the EU's TAP pipeline. In 2023, Montenegro also held discussions with Azerbaijan about the IAP, but no progress was made.
Croatia has an operational LNG terminal on Krk Island and is planning to build a gas interconnector with Bosnia and Herzegovina to supply it with U.S. LNG.
