Albania and Greece Strengthen Defense Ties; AKTOR and ONEX Bid for Elefsina Port Concession
Albania and Greece are enhancing defense cooperation while AKTOR Group and ONEX Group are pursuing a strategic concession for Elefsina Port to establish a regional transport hub. This development reflects the countries' efforts to diversify energy supply routes amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

Albania's Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, and Greek Minister, Nikos Dendias, emphasized bilateral cooperation in defense and security during their recent meeting, with a focus on regional stability in the Western Balkans. Nufi highlighted Albania's participation in EUFOR Althea and KFOR missions, alongside ongoing modernization of its naval fleet to bolster maritime security.
Concurrently, AKTOR Group and ONEX Group announced a strategic alliance to bid for the Elefsina Port concession, aiming to transform it into a logistics base for LNG distribution and reduce reliance on Russian routes. This project is supported by contracts with Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina and aligns with broader efforts to establish alternative Western trade routes. The concession model is expected to attract bank financing due to stable revenue prospects.
