Amazon to Invest $12 Billion in Louisiana AI Data Center; Rutgers Revives Ocean Observatory
Amazon plans to invest $12 billion to develop an AI data center in Louisiana, marking a significant economic milestone for the region. Concurrently, Rutgers University has reactivated the LEO-15 ocean observatory, enhancing marine research capabilities off New Jersey's coast.

Amazon's $12 billion investment in AI data centers will be the largest economic development project in Louisiana's history. Governor Jeff Landry issued an executive order requiring data center companies to fully fund their electricity needs to qualify for state tax breaks, addressing potential costs to ratepayers.
Concurrently, Rutgers University has revitalized the LEO-15 ocean observatory, operational since 1996, to collect real-time ocean data and support research on coastal dynamics. This project, powered by a solar and wind energy buoy, aims to enhance scientific research and innovation in New Jersey. The dual developments underscore a trend where states are aggressively courting tech investments while ensuring local infrastructure can support them.
