America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining have announced a $1.1 million project aimed at enhancing additive manufacturing interoperability between the U.S. and U.K. defense sectors. Funded by the U.S. Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the initiative will focus on laser powder bed fusion and address challenges related to process qualification, certification, and secure data transmission. The project aims to strengthen the defense industrial base in alignment with both nations' manufacturing strategies.

America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining announced the winners of a $1.1 million project call for the Allied Additive Manufacturing Interoperability Program. This initiative, funded by the U.S.
Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, aims to establish additive manufacturing equivalency and interoperability between the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.K. Ministry of Defense, specifically focusing on laser powder bed fusion of critical parts.
The project seeks to identify barriers to interoperability and develop international qualification approaches, addressing shared challenges such as process qualification, certification, and secure data transmission. The goal is to build a resilient defense industrial base that meets complex logistical demands and aligns with both the U.K.
Advanced Manufacturing Strategy and the U.S. Regional Sustainment Framework.
