America Makes and NCDMM Launch $35M DoD Additive Manufacturing Initiatives
America Makes and NCDMM have announced two project calls exceeding $35 million aimed at enhancing the U.S. Defense Industrial Base through additive manufacturing. The 2026 DoD Organic Industrial Base Modernization Challenge will allocate $10-15 million per project to address manufacturing gaps, while the Joint Additive Qualification for Sustainment program offers $10.5 million for supplier qualification. These initiatives are designed to modernize defense manufacturing operations and expand the pool of qualified additive manufacturing suppliers.

America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining have announced two new project calls totaling over $35 million. The first initiative, the 2026 DoD Organic Industrial Base Modernization Challenge, aims to modernize defense manufacturing with typical awards ranging from $10 million to $15 million, and up to $25 million for larger proposals.
The challenge focuses on manufacturing gaps including digital operations and automation. The second initiative, Joint Additive Qualification for Sustainment, offers $10.5 million for the qualification of additive manufacturing suppliers, targeting the standardization of training for laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition systems. Up to 30 awards are anticipated in this program.
