American Airlines Completes First US Flight Using Electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel
American Airlines and Infinium achieved a milestone by conducting the first commercial flight in the U.S. powered by electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), produced from waste CO₂ and renewable electricity. This significant development in sustainable aviation marks an important step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector.

American Airlines conducted the inaugural U.S. commercial flight using electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) from Corpus Christi International Airport to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The eSAF, produced at Infinium's Pathfinder facility, is blended with conventional jet fuel and meets ASTM International specifications.
Infinium's eSAF can potentially reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% compared to traditional jet fuel. An offtake agreement exists between American Airlines and Infinium for eSAF from Project Roadrunner, set to start production in 2027 with an expected output of over 5 million gallons annually. This advancement in fuel technology supports the aviation industry's push for sustainable alternatives amidst a backdrop of nearly 100 billion gallons of jet fuel consumed annually.
