The Andaman and Nicobar Police has signed a Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) with Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) for the maintenance of four fast interceptor boats (FIBs). The contract will be phased for the maintenance of six additional FIBs.

The MoU aims to enhance coastal surveillance and ensure the operational readiness of the vessels, which are crucial for patrolling the harbour area where the Navy and Coast Guard primarily operate beyond 5 nautical miles. The CAMC, valid for three years after a 60-day mobilization period, includes preventive and breakdown maintenance, deployment of trained personnel, and supply of genuine spares. The FIBs, designed and supplied by GRSE under the Coastal Security Scheme in 2010-11, can reach speeds of 35 nautical miles per hour and are equipped with GPS.
