Angola Begins Construction of Luena-Saurimo Railway Line to Boost Trade
Angola has officially begun construction of the Luena-Saurimo railway line, a 260-kilometer project aimed at enhancing trade in the eastern region. The initiative, awarded to Odebrecht Angola, follows a demining operation and is part of the National Master Plan for Transport, supported by a budget of over $1.16 billion authorized by President Joo Lourenço. The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Defense.

Construction of the Luena-Saurimo railway line, part of the Benguela Railway branch, commenced with a signing ceremony and the first stone laid on Tuesday. This 260-kilometer project aims to connect Luena in Moxico province and Saurimo in Lunda-Sul, enhancing production and trade in the eastern region of Angola.
The contract was awarded to Odebrecht Angola, with the ceremony led by Minister of Transport Ricardo de Viegas D'Abreu. The event was attended by the Minister of Defense Joo Ernesto dos Santos and provincial governors.
The project follows a demining operation that removed 27 anti-personnel mines and various explosive devices. The railway line is part of the National Master Plan for Transport and Road Infrastructure and is supported by a budget of $1,168,405,370 authorized by President Joo Lourenço.
