Apache AH-64 Helicopter Successfully Tests New 30mm APEX Ammunition at Yuma Proving Ground
The Apache AH-64 helicopter successfully tested the 30x113mm XM1225 Aviation Proximity Explosive (APEX) ammunition at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, in December 2025. This test demonstrated the Apache's first air-to-air engagement capability against unmanned aircraft systems.
The XM1225 APEX, managed by Product Manager Medium Caliber Ammunition from Picatinny Arsenal, is designed for modern threats without requiring system modifications. It met all accuracy requirements and showed effectiveness against ground and UAS targets.
The proximity fuze enhances its lethality, providing a significant tactical advantage. The collaboration among various Army units ensured the test's success, and the XM1225 is set for rapid fielding to support warfighters.
