Apley Farm Shop has enhanced its sustainability efforts by doubling its solar energy production, installing energy-efficient refrigeration, and switching maintenance vans from diesel to electric. The new solar panel system, rated at 40kWp, is projected to generate around 38,700kWh annually, covering nearly all power needs during summer.
Supported by a grant from the West Midlands Growth Hub, the upgrades were implemented swiftly, expected to save 12 tonnes of CO₂ yearly. The estate manages 3,500 acres under a Higher Level Stewardship Agreement, focusing on biodiversity and sustainable farming practices, including a free-range egg unit exceeding RSPCA standards.
