Arctic Sisu Advances E-Methane Project in Finland Targeting 2030 Launch
Arctic Sisu is prioritizing e-methane within its Power-to-X strategy, aiming for a 2030 launch of its Kotka project. The firm projects a cost of €500mn-600mn, down from initial estimates, and plans to produce 113,100 t/yr of e-methane using renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO2.

Arctic Sisu's Kotka project is set to produce 113,100 t/yr of e-methane, leveraging 56,100 t/yr of renewable hydrogen sourced from biogenic CO2 capture. The company plans to finalize its investment decision by mid-2027, contingent on successful permitting, with commercial production projected for 2030.
The decision to develop the project in a single phase aims to enhance economic viability and reduce execution risks. Despite acknowledging methane's greenhouse gas status, Arctic Sisu views e-methane as a practical, cost-effective step within the hydrogen derivatives market. The project is currently navigating Finland's permitting process after an environmental impact assessment, with capital expenditure estimates lowered due to improved industry experience.
