Argentina to Launch Southern Energy LNG Project by Late 2027
Argentina is set to enter the LNG market with the Southern Energy project, featuring an eight-year supply agreement with SEFE. This initiative is expected to enhance Argentina's role as a significant LNG exporter and generate over $7 billion in revenue.

The Southern Energy project, a collaboration between Pan American Energy, YPF, Pampa Energía, Harbour Energy, and Golar LNG, will introduce two floating liquefaction units in Río Negro province. A final investment decision was made on February 5, 2025, with the Heads of Agreement signed on December 1, 2025, for an eight-year LNG supply deal to SEFE, amounting to 2 million metric tonnes per year starting in late 2027.
The project aims for a processing capacity of approximately 6 million tonnes of LNG annually, with potential revenues exceeding $7 billion. This development could significantly boost Argentina's natural gas exports and stabilize its economy. The project's success is contingent on international market dynamics.
