Argentina's Potential as a Top Copper Producer by 2035
Argentina could emerge as a leading copper producer within a decade, contingent on resolving key infrastructure and regulatory challenges. With proven copper reserves of 17.1 million metric tons, the nation has a strategic opportunity to capitalize on the growing global demand for copper driven by energy transition needs.

Argentina could increase copper production to 1.5 million metric tons by 2035 if nine major mining projects advance. Proving its potential as a top-10 global copper producer, the country has 17.1 million metric tons of proven reserves, representing about 1.8% of global reserves.
Major obstacles include the need for improved infrastructure, energy supply, and financing, estimated at over $28 billion for the projects under review. Regulatory reforms, particularly the recent changes to the Glacier Protection Law, aim to clarify investment frameworks.
The U.S. could benefit from supporting Argentina's mining sector as part of broader efforts to diversify critical mineral supply chains. If successful, Argentina could generate $17 billion in copper exports by 2035.
