Army Develops AI Platform to Enhance Battlefield Planning Efficiency
The U.S. Army is testing COA-GPT, an AI-driven platform aimed at reducing mission planning time from days to seconds, enhancing decision-making agility. This innovation seeks to integrate AI with military expertise for improved operational effectiveness.

The U.S. Army has created an experimental AI platform, the Course Of Action Generative Pre-trained Transformer (COA-GPT), designed to significantly reduce mission planning times. This initiative is part of Project Convergence Capstone 6 at Fort Irwin, California, running from July 17-29, under the Army Research Laboratory.
COA-GPT aims to improve the collaboration between Soldiers and AI, providing leaders with the ability to generate and assess different planning options. Key features include a user-friendly graphic interface developed in partnership with Hyssos Tech, which enhances communication and reduces cognitive load. Future developments will focus on refining the platform based on Soldier feedback and exploring the evolving roles within Army planning processes.
