At Least 677 Soldiers from Astrakhan Region Killed in Ukraine Military Operation, Including Andrey Makhmudov

Andrey Makhmudov, a 22-year-old from the Astrakhan region, was killed in combat, raising the official death toll of fighters from the region to at least 677 since the start of the military operation in Ukraine. Makhmudov had signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2025 after graduating from Astrakhan State College of Professional Technologies.

According to the 'Caucasian Knot,' by January 11, the total number of officially recognized fatalities from the Astrakhan region was previously reported as 676, which included another soldier, Alexander Syzranov. The report indicates that at least 8,450 fighters from southern Russia have been officially recognized as killed, with 4,172 from the North Caucasus Federal District and 4,280 from the Southern Federal District. Dagestan has the highest reported fatalities in the North Caucasus region.
