ATGBICS Develops Bidirectional Fibre Transceivers for Defence Drones
ATGBICS has created a bidirectional optical transceiver platform for defense drones to enhance communication in contested environments. This development responds to the growing demand for robust communications solutions in the face of electronic warfare challenges.

ATGBICS, under the Astute franchise, has developed a bidirectional optical transceiver platform tailored for defense drone applications, addressing vulnerabilities in conventional RF communications amidst increasing electronic warfare. The recent implementation for a UAV manufacturer utilized 1×9 BiDi through-hole transceivers to ensure communication integrity in contested environments.
This system simplifies integration, reduces cable mass, and mitigates RF emissions. A total of 500 transceiver pairs are planned for deployment, with supply chain measures ensuring consistency and reliability. The shift toward fibre communications in defense is driven by the need for resilience against jamming and improved operational performance, particularly in active conflict zones like Ukraine.
