AtkinsRéalis to Expand Idaho Natural Gas Power Plant
AtkinsRéalis appointed as engineer for a 162MW expansion of the Bennett Mountain Power Plant in Idaho. The project aims to enhance grid reliability during peak demand periods, with construction commencing this spring and completion expected by summer 2028.

AtkinsRéalis will provide multidiscipline engineering and design services for the expansion of the Bennett Mountain Power Plant, which will add nine natural gas-powered reciprocating internal combustion engine units. Idaho Power received the necessary permit from state regulators in March, allowing construction to begin this spring.
The project is expected to be completed by summer 2028. The expansion is critical to balancing the grid as demand grows due to increasing electrification and large energy loads from sectors such as data centers. The successful implementation may influence other utilities facing similar challenges.
