Atlas Compute Proposes 200 MW Data Center with Onsite Power Generation in St. Lucie County
Atlas Compute, a Miami-based start-up, proposes to build a 200 MW data center in St. Lucie County that would generate its own electricity through four 40 MW gas turbines powered by natural gas. The project aims for a total capacity of 1 GW by 2027, comparable to the energy consumption of a city.
However, Atlas Compute has not yet applied for necessary approvals or secured a natural gas supply. The local utility, Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA), noted that the required gas capacity exceeds its current capabilities, necessitating new infrastructure. The land proposed for the data center is zoned for heavy-industrial use, which is incompatible with a data center unless rezoned.
