Atura Power to Pursue Opportunities at Former LGS Site Following IESO Decision
Atura Power will explore future opportunities at the former Lambton Generating Station site after IESO rejected its proposal for a 500 MW natural gas plant. The decision impacts local economic prospects, highlighting challenges in Ontario's energy procurement process.

Atura Power is reassessing potential projects at the former Lambton Generating Station site following the Independent Electricity System Operator's (IESO) rejection of its natural gas power plant proposal. St.
Clair Township Mayor Jeff Agar expressed disappointment over the IESO's decision, citing lost economic opportunities and jobs for the local community. He noted that additional proposals for gas expansions and battery storage were also rejected.
Meanwhile, Ontario has secured 640 MW of new electricity capacity through three projects, with operations expected to commence by May 1, 2030. The rejection of Atura's project underscores the competitive and selective nature of the province's energy procurement process, which may hinder local development.
