Australia Awards $4 Billion Contract to Austal for Eight Landing Craft Heavy Vessels
The Albanese Government has signed a $4 billion contract with Austal Defence Australia for the construction of eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels. This initiative is part of the Australian Army's transformation towards a littoral fleet and is expected to create over 1,100 direct and more than 2,000 indirect jobs, predominantly in Western Australia. Construction is set to commence in 2026, with the final vessel scheduled for delivery in 2038, enhancing the Australian Defence Force's amphibious capabilities.

The vessels will be constructed at the Henderson Shipyard, with work starting in 2026 and completion of the eighth vessel by 2038. This initiative is part of continuous naval shipbuilding in Australia, enhancing the Defence Force's amphibious capabilities and regional humanitarian assistance efforts. The program follows a $1 billion contract for 18 Landing Craft Medium vessels awarded to Austal in December 2025.
