Australia's Federal Budget Focuses on Regulatory Reform Amid Economic Challenges
The upcoming federal budget will include regulatory reforms, but not all requested by businesses. Rising global tensions and previous economic forecasts may impact Australia's fiscal outlook and budgetary savings efforts.

Finance Minister Katy Gallagher confirmed that regulatory reform will be included in the May federal budget, but not all business requests will be addressed. A recent study indicated that Australian firms spend nearly $160 billion annually to comply with federal regulations, which adds costs and slows operations.
The government aims to reduce annual growth in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) from over 10% to 5-6%. The savings package will focus on NDIS expenditures amid ongoing economic pressures from global conflicts.
Additionally, more than 50 advocacy groups propose a 25% levy on exported natural gas, potentially generating $17 billion yearly for housing and welfare initiatives. Labor may also reduce property investment incentives to address intergenerational tax fairness.
