Austria Unveils BEACONSAT Military Satellite for Signal Detection in 2027
Austria's Federal Army has presented the BEACONSAT satellite, designed to detect jamming signals for one year starting February 2027. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner emphasized its importance for security and independence from third countries. The project costs one million euros, with half funded by the European Space Agency. The satellite will launch from California aboard a Falcon9 rocket and aims to gather data on signal interference, while three additional satellites from the LEO2VLEO project will enhance communication and imagery.

Austria's Federal Army has unveiled the BEACONSAT satellite, set to detect and analyze jamming signals for one year from February 2027. The project, costing one million euros with 500,000 euros from the European Space Agency, aims to enhance military security and data sovereignty.
The satellite will launch from Vandenberg, California, aboard a Falcon9 rocket and operate in Low Earth Orbit at altitudes of 500 to 2000 kilometers. Concurrently, three satellites from the LEO2VLEO project will improve communication at altitudes of 200 to 500 kilometers. The Austrian Ministry of Defense highlighted the importance of this technology in countering threats to troops' navigation.
